It is very possible that this is the last letter written by Paul. We are not sure of the dates of writing for Philemon or Hebrews, but this could be it. In it, Paul gives his last advice to his child in the faith, Timothy. It is a short letter, and thus out of favor with many teachers today, as it does not occupy an entire quarterly. But it is the source of many familiar quotations: For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know
whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have
entrusted to Him until that day. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not
need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men
will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers,
disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious
gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless,
conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of
godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof,
for correction, for training in righteousness; I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the
faith; |
