His Love Endures Forever Psalm 107
One of the great blessings of Scripture is that the Psalms speak to the heart. Poetry is the language which transcends translation, and this poetry speaks to us today. He talks about those who are wanderers - and what is more characteristic today than those who wander in their lives? So many people lack a moral compass, asking, "Is there any meaning to this life?" God lets such people suffer - until they cry out to Him. Those who are seeking the Lord will find Him, and He will lead them "by a straight way" to a place of rest. Some, however, have heard the word of God, and rejected it. Is there anything which brings more sorrow to a parent's heart than this? What does God do? He does not let them go entirely, but makes their lives full of "bitter labor" - they work, but they do not obtain satisfaction. Why? So that they too will cry out to Him - and he will break the chains that bind them. Others become fools not by method of thought but by actions. We see this constantly. How many people do you know who believe that if only they had more money, or the right spouse, or some other thing to be chased in this world, they would be happy? God lets them chase until they see the foolishness of this - even if this takes them near death. Then when they cry to Him, He will save. Others take a more mature view - or so they think. No fools, they think to use the world around them for their own gain. "Out on the sea in ships" - working the things of this world, commanding them for their own profit, they appear to ride high and serene. They are often admired. But the sea is still the sea; time and chance still happen to all. When the storm arises, they too can call to God, and He will still the storm. Finally, there are those who have been blessed by God - and have forgotten who He is. They need but look back in history to see what God has done for them, but they choose to forget. God's response is to humble them - and then lift the needy out of their affliction. "Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the Lord."
