Links
Below you will find a few links we think worth your attention; as
we find others, we'll add them.
The main site for Eastside Christian Church (of which we are a
ministry). A recently redesigned web site, it's worth a look if
you're looking for a church in the North Orange County area.
Also, one of our Eastside members, Becky Java, has started a
ministry of her own. The web site is still under development, so
bear with us in this. You can see Becky's ministry at
Mighty God Ministries.
Christian Classics Ethereal Library
OK
- if you only had one site on the web as a reference for a teacher,
this would be the site. The only things you'll find on this site are
the greatest minds of Christianity. Need an example? Let's consider
those whose names start with "A": Augustine, Aquinas, Albert the
Great, Athanasius, Anselm, Arminius and the ever-popular Anonymous.
SVS Press
Sometimes
we get a query concerning patristics - the writings of the early
church fathers. Most of these are well contained in CCEL, with the
disadvantage that the translations often imitate King James English.
Modern translations are available here. SVS is St. Vladimir's
Seminary, a monastery and seminary in Manhattan, New York. They
don't make it easy to find a good selection of patristics; your best
bet is to search by the name of the church father you might be
interested in. Chrysostom would be a good start. Iraneus is another
one; and don't miss Athanasius' On the Incarnation of the Word of
God. The forward is by C. S. Lewis, and that's worth the price of
the book alone.
Interpreting Ancient Manuscripts
For
those of you who are interested in the accuracy of the Scriptures,
this web site, "Interpreting Ancient Manuscripts", offers an
excellent introduction to the subject - in layman's terms. A more
detailed site can be found offered by the Brethren Churches, titled
Comparing Translations.
E-Sword Bible Study Software
Occasionally the question comes up, "Where can I get some good
Bible study software?" Here's a dandy answer. E-Sword is the
personal ministry of the author of the software - and it's free.
Considering that you can spend several hundred on the commercial
packages, that's quite a deal. There are a few add-ons that he has
available for a modest fee (most notably for the New American
Standard Version of the Bible and the NIV).
